Feel free to explore some of the tools I use in therapy...

EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help you process and release the emotional, cognitive and somatic weight of traumatic or distressing memories. How it works: Trauma can sometimes leave memories "stuck" in the brain, causing persistent anxiety or negative beliefs. Using gentle bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements), EMDR helps your brain resume its natural healing process. This allows you to resolve these experiences without needing to retell every detail of what happened. How it helps: The goal is to transform painful, disruptive memories into neutral events, empowering you to move forward and reclaim the authorship of your own story.

Sand Tray Therapy: A Gateway to Healing Sand Tray Therapy is a powerful, expressive modality that allows individuals to bypass the limitations of verbal language to process complex or deeply buried trauma. By creating scenes in a tray of sand using miniature figures, clients can externalize their internal world in a safe, contained, and non-threatening way. How it Helps: Symbolic Processing: The symbols and figures you choose often speak to unconscious themes, offering insights that traditional talk therapy might miss. It allows for the gentle exploration and reorganization of traumatic patterns. Restoring Agency: You are the creator of the scene. This act of intentional creation helps you shift from a passive victim of trauma to an active participant in your healing, helping you reclaim the authorship of your own story.

DBT: Building Skills for Resilience Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps individuals move beyond the reactive patterns often left behind by trauma. While trauma can leave you feeling emotionally overwhelmed or disconnected, DBT provides practical, actionable skills to help you regain your footing. How it helps: Emotional Regulation: Learn to identify and manage intense emotional spikes, reducing the feeling of being "at the mercy" of your reactions. Mindfulness: Develop the ability to stay grounded in the present moment, helping to quiet the physiological response to past triggers. Distress Tolerance: Build a "toolkit" of healthy coping strategies to navigate crises without resorting to harmful behaviors or patterns. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Improve your ability to communicate your needs and set healthy boundaries, fostering stronger, safer relationships.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy: Healing Through the Body Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a body-oriented approach designed to treat trauma by addressing how it is physically held within the nervous system. While talk therapy focuses on the cognitive narrative of past events, SP recognizes that the body often remains "stuck" in a state of survival, even long after the threat has passed. How it helps: Bottom-Up Processing: By bringing awareness to physical sensations, movement patterns, and posture, SP helps you identify and release tension patterns established during traumatic experiences. Regulating the Nervous System: It provides tools to move from a state of hyper-arousal (anxiety) or hypo-arousal (numbness/dissociation) back to a regulated, grounded state. Completing the Response: Trauma often interrupts the body's natural fight-or-flight response. SP gently helps the body "complete" those interrupted actions, allowing the nervous system to feel that the danger has truly passed.
